How to Buy On eBay-2

Private Auction

Private Auction-As a seller when you create a private listing, a buyer's User ID does not appear in the listing or in the listing's bid history. Only you are the person who can view the buyer’s User IDs associated with that listing.

Second Chance Offer in following two situation a seller can make a Second Chance Offer to a loosing bidder :

o The winning bidder of an item listing fails to buy the item

o The seller has duplicate items for sale but hasn't chosen to run a Multiple Item Auction

Multiple Item Auction-When seller offers two or more identical items in its auction-type listing, this is called a Dutch auction. This means the seller is offering several, similar items for sale. Unlike a regular Friend Circles auction, Dutch Auctions can have many winners. When you bid on a “Multiple Item Auction”, you specify the number of items you're interested in and the price you're willing to pay per item. All winning bidders will pay the same price, which is lowest successful bid.

Important- For Multiple Item Auction listings, you cannot use eBay's automatic bidding system to enter a maximum bid. Winning bidders will pay a price equal to the lowest winning bid. Winning bids are selected in order of bid price per item. For example, a bid for 5 units at $12 per unit is ranked above a bid for 10 units at $11 per unit. If two bids have the same price per item, the earlier bid is given priority.

o Once you raise your bid in “Multiple Item auction”, you can’t lower your “total bid value”.

o Winning bidders can refuse partial quantities. This means that if you win some, but not all, of the quantity you bid for, you don't have to buy any of them.

o To displayed Bids click on the "Bidders list" link. Bids with their bid prices are not winning bids, but bids that are winning show the price that they would pay if the auction ended immediately. To place a winning bid you need to exceed this price.

o Allocation of the items is effected by the ranking of the bids.

o Pay for the item and the seller ships it to you.

o When it's part of an auction-style listing, the Buy It Now option is only shown on listings until an item receives its first bid, or, for a Reserve Price Auction, when the reserve is met. This means that when you see an item has both a Buy It Now price and a first bid price listed, you will need to act quickly!.

Best offer- In this method of selling, buyers can offer a price they are willing to pay for the item. Once an offer is accepted, the item is closed and the buyer is obligated to pay the price offered. Each Best Offer is binding, just like a bid, and is good for 48 hours. Buyers may choose to offer more than the stated Fixed Price so that shipping is included in the final price.

Once a buyer makes a Best Offer, seller can choose one of the following:

By using these buying formats buyers and sellers do business together efficiently. Each format has its own advantages and characteristics.

  1. Auction format
  2. Fixed price format
  3. Advertisement format

Auction formats - It is a perfect way to pick up the items at a bargain price and uncover the secrets of the enchanted treasure through bidding. Auction format include following way of buying:

Second Chance Offer - Under certain circumstances, the seller can offer the item to a bidder other than the auction's winner.

Multiple Item Auction - Listing that offers two or more identical items.

Specialty Sites - eBay Motors.

Auction-style Listing-eBay’s auction style listing format is based on the traditional auction format, where bidders compete for Seller’s item for a fixed length of time and seller sells the particular item to the highest bidder.

Here are the basics of how an eBay auction-style listings work:

1. Search or browse to find an item you're interested in buying.

2. Review the entire listing and decide if you wish to compete in this auction. Some things to note are:

o When bid ends

o Current Bid amount.

o Item description

o If you have any doubt about the particular item you can always email the seller by clicking on the ask seller a question link on the listing page.

o Payment methods and shipping costs

3. When you place a bid, you're pledging to pay as much as the amount you've bid; in other words, it's your maximum bid. eBay uses a technique called proxy bidding, in which it will automatically raise your bid only enough to beat competing bids, but no higher than your maximum bid.

4. If you are the highest bidder when the auction ends, you win the auction. As the winner, you are obligated to buy the item for the winning bid price.

In eBay, auction-style listing includes:

o Reserve Price Auction

o Private Auction

o Reserve Price Auction-Some auction-style listings have a reserve price, a hidden minimum price, on their item.

How it works:

  • The reserve price is the lowest price at which a seller is willing to sell an item.
  • Buyers are not shown what the Reserve Price is
  • If, reserve price was not met, seller cannot obligate in any way to sell an item.
  • The winning bidder must meet or exceed the reserve price and have the highest bid.
  • When you fill out the bid form at the bottom of the item screen showing your book, you enter the maximum amount
  • Watch the label next to the current price to see whether the reserve price has been met. Until you see that the reserve price has been met, there have been no successful bids in the auction.
  • Once the reserve has been met, the item will sell to the highest bidder when the auction closes.
  • If your maximum bid is the first to meet or exceed the reserve price, the effective bid displayed will automatically be raised to the reserve price.
